Andrew Paton

General Manager

Andrew has significant experience, in both New Zealand and overseas, managing the delivery of water and wastewater projects.  His most recent role was with Brian Perry Civil as a Senior Project Manager.   Prior to this, he held the positions of  Senior Project Manager and Project Delivery Manager at Filtec Ltd.  Andrew has a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical and Materials) and a Graduate Diploma of Accounting.


Donna McAuslin

Executive Assistant

Donna comes to Apex Environmental with a strong executive administration background, working many years in the health sector after holding positions in the banking, finance and insurance industries. Donna joined Apex Environmental April 2018 as Administration Manager and Executive Assistant to the General Manager and Directors Steve & Matt.

Matt Savage

Technical Manager - Wastewater

Matt’s role in Apex Environmental is Technical Manager.  He also oversees the design team working on new wastewater treatment plants and acts in a consultancy capacity.  Matt has 20 years international experience in the design and delivery of wastewater treatment plants across a range of industries.  Matt is a chartered chemical engineer with a PhD in Chemical & Process Engineering.  Matt was awarded the inaugural CH2M Beca Young Water Professional of the Year Award in 2009.

Thomas Board

Technical Manager - Water

As a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers with 20yrs professional experience., Thomas’ skills are centered around delivering water and wastewater treatment plants and associated infrastructure, from conceptual and detailed engineering design, through construction and commissioning to tuning, troubleshooting and training, with the aim of handing over a fully automated, functional, efficient and effective facility to his clients.

Steve Kroening

Business Development Manager

Steve’s role in Apex Environmental is Business Development Manager, helping clients seeking to make sound economic sustainable business decisions.   He is passionate about industry taking responsibility for its impact on the environment we live in, while still ensuring economic growth.


Bryce Holloway

Sales Manager

Bryce joined Apex Environmental in January 2017.  He has a background in process and fluid engineering as well as working in design and prototyping. Bryce has also been involved in project management. He has studied business management at Auckland University focusing on business, commercial law, economics and accounting.

Kennedy Boakye

Senior Project Manager

With 13 years experience in oil, gas, chemicals, biogas, water & wastewater industries, Kennedy has worked in project/process systems, regulatory affairs engineering & project management.  Over the past few years, Kennedy has primarily worked in the water and wastewater industry, project managing turnkey design and build projects across New Zealand and Australia.  With a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering, along with many other industry certifications, Kennedy brings a wealth of skills and expertise to his position & is based in our Auckland office.

Murray Chapman

Project Manager

Murray has extensive experience in both the agricultural and horticultural industries and has gained a great deal of technical knowledge over his working life.  He joined the company in late 2011 and plays a real hands on role with installations.  Murray has managed projects across the winery, dairy and food & beverage sectors and is experienced in the installation of Membrane Bioreactors.

Jack Taylor

Project Engineer

Jack has a range of project experience working on chemical, water and civil infrastructure projects in Australasia and the United Kingdom. He has recently returned from the United Kingdom where he has worked for a number of Tier 1 contractors delivering major rail infrastructure projects in central London. Jack brings with him a varied skillset developed on projects of varying size and complexity across a number of industries internationally.  Jack has a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (Chemical and Process).

Ben Dowsett

Graduate Engineer

Ben joined Apex Environmental in 2019, after completing his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the Auckland University with Honours.   Ben has experience in working as an assistant Project Manager and also assisted part-time on engineering projects as a design engineer.   He has skills in using various software packages, including CAD and as a quick learner and hard worker, Ben will be a great asset to the Apex team.

Ivan Sepulveda


Ivan joined Apex in January 2019 and provides in-house draughting to the design & sales teams.  Ivan has 9 years draughting experience and is skilled in 2D (Autocad), 3D modelling packages and CAD software.  After completing his degree in Chile, Ivan has been involved in various types of projects, including working with multi-national companies in the mining engineering industries.  Ivan is creative and innovative, delivering high-quality drawing solutions from simple layouts and profile drawings, to advanced modelling and draughting requirements of complex projects, complementing the design and build projects Apex undertake.

Nathan Ton

Design Engineer, Wastewater

As Design Engineer for Wastewater, Nathan is initially based in our Auckland office.  With 17 years of experience in water & wastewater industries, Nathan has vast experience in project management, consulting, designing and installing large scale projects internationally & a broad knowledge of technologies, including membrane bioreactors (MBR), DAFi  (dissolved air flotation with nano bubble) & moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBR).  With Bachelor & Master’s degrees in Environmental Engineering, Nathan brings a professional and skilled approach to Apex.

Rachael Thurlow

Office Administrator

Rachael joined Apex Environmental in March 2018.   With 25 years of experience working in accounts and office administration along with marketing and graphics, Rachael brings a wealth of knowledge and support to the administration office.  At Apex, her role is accounts payable/receivable, office administration and general all round support.

Rong Wilks

Management Accountant

Rong is a qualified Chartered Accountant, experienced in management reporting within large complex and diverse organisations. Rong joined Citycare in 2017 as the Division Management Accountant for Citycare Water Central Region and manages financial matters for New Plymouth, South Wairarapa, Masterton and the Wellington Region. Rong assumed the responsibility of managing the accounting requirements for Apex Environmental Ltd in May 2019.

Alastair Ridgway

General Manager Finance & Administration

Alastair is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has 30 years experience working in a variety of industries covering corporate and management accounting.  Alastair is currently the General Manager, Finance & Administration, for Citycare Group, which is a major shareholder in Apex Environmental.  Under a shared services arrangement with Apex, Alastair works closely with the Apex Environmental Board advising on all financial and governance matters.

Sam Allen

Health & Safety Manager

Sam has 20 years’ industry experience, the past 13 years in safety-specific roles within the New Zealand Fire Service, WorkSafe NZ, and civil contracting companies. He is a dedicated health and safety professional who is confident in promoting risk management initiatives from the coalface up to boardroom level. He thrives on inspiring and empowering others to achieve health and safety objectives and commit to sustainable, continuous improvement.
