Upgrading the Waitahuna Water Treatment Plant
Apex Water was engaged by the Clutha District Council to upgrade the existing water treatment plant at Waitahuna. The upgrade increased the hydraulic and treatment capacity of the plant, which draws from a surface water source and comes under heavy demand in the summer months.
Upgrade works included optimisation of the raw water feed and chemical dosing into the plant, the installation of a new chlorine dosing system, improvements to the sludge removal system of the clarifier, and the complete upgrade of the filter backwash system including filter media replacement. In addition to the mechanical and process upgrade, the plant SCADA and automation were upgraded.
